Like a Lion…… Roaring

74628[1]Growing up we used to have 3 channels on TV…. Not many channels to choose from but the ones we did have , we actually knew what was on every week.   TV series were on the same night every week and we would make sure we were sitting in our favorite spot when the time came for our favorite show.   Although I don’t remember the exact nights shows like Happy Days, Laverne and Shirley, or Mork and Mindy Came on..I do remember Saturday night was HeeHaw night…. and Sunday night was Disney!
I also remember that right before the Sunday Night Disney movie, we would watch a series with Marlin Perkins called Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom.   For those of you who may be too young to remember…. Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom was the pioneer show for the many wildlife shows we see now.   We would venture to different parts of the world and watch them get ….up close and personal with the wild…. Monkeys…. Bears… Koala’s …. Tigers… and Lions!

Lions…. ohhhhh how I loved those lions!   I am a big animal lover and those big cats …. with that big thick mane… Beautiful!   Watching them in their natural habitat was amazing.   They would play sometimes like my house cats…. only much …. much bigger!   They could be loving with each other and also very rough as the Big Daddy cat would watch over the pride.  When the King of the Jungle would walk… you could see the confidence and power he had!   No one or No Thing was going to mess with him or his family.   If another male lion would enter his territory…. the fight was on!  They meant business…. and it showed!    We got a very clear picture of how tough and fierce the mighty lion was and no one should ever…EVER mess with them!

In Scripture….
1 Peter 5:8 AMP   Be well balanced (temperate, sober of mind), be vigilant and cautious at all times; for that enemy of yours, the devil, roams around like a lion roaring [in fierce hunger], seeking someone to seize upon and devour.

Wow… what a clear, painted picture that puts in your mind… especially after watching all of those documentaries about lions over the years!!!   This means that the devil (our enemy) is mean… fierce…. powerful and he is going to devour you!  Something we should not provoke or at the least stay far away from….. right?

If you re-read that Scripture… it says… the devil, roams around like a lion roaring ….. roaring….!
I did a search on why lions roar…. and …. although not lengthy….here is what I found out…

* A lion roars to communicate with other Lions.
* A lion roars to proclaim their territory.
* A lion’s roar can be heard up to 5 miles by a human… it is still unclear how much farther another lion can hear the roar.

*A lion… will creep  up on their prey… When they are close enough… they let out a roar that confuses the animal and strikes fear into the lions prey.  The prey then cannot think or react correctly out of fear and so is trapped and caught by the lion….

Sneaky little buggers… they creep…. not a sound….making their prey feel safe… letting their guard down… when they are close enough…. then… and only then…do they let out that mighty …. loud….roar that sends them into a panic…making them confused… running in all directions without a purpose but to flee…. and since they can not make wise decisions…they are trapped… and … devoured.  We have seen it thousands of times …. and reminds us once again …. a lion is nothing to mess with!!!

Satan…. the devil…. our enemy…. is compared to this!   He too…. is patient as he creeps in to our lives….. closer and closer… we begin to feel as though everything is fine… we are settled into a false sense of security.   We don’t realize he has gotten so close…. when all of a sudden…..
He ROARS!!!

He ROARS….. “Cancer”
He ROARS….. “Lack”
He ROARS….. “Self Worth”
He ROARS…. FEAR…. to get you confused…to run…. just to get away… gotta do something…. anything…. and with that ROAR being so magnified  in our once peaceful little world…. we end up making some very foolish mistakes… sometimes very costly mistakes…. and run right into the place that traps us….and then…. we are…. devoured.

……but wait….

Have you watched your cat at home?   How he sneaks up on a bird… or a mouse… or even a play toy?
It watches very patiently…. creeping up as close as it can get… one small step at a time…. waiting…. just waiting… for it to run!
What happens though….. if the prey…. doesn’t run?
Many times… the cat will bat it around awhile…. try to nibble at it…. but soon loses interest…. and ….LEAVES IT ALONE!

The first part of that Scripture says….. Be well balanced (temperate, sober of mind), be vigilant and cautious at all times… at ALL times!!
When we are aware of the fact we have an enemy…. one that is always on the prowl…. we can be ready for an attack with an attack plan!  Knowing the Word of God… the Will of God … of who we are in Him… what He wants for us….
We can stand still…. Be still and know….that our God has our back…. our way of escape!

So the next time….. yes… there will be a next time…. you hear that ROAR ….
Don’t run!   Don’t make any foolish moves….
…but remember…
Stand your ground… Resist the natural instinct to run!   And he will have no other choice but to move on  ……” seeking someone (else) to seize upon and devour. ”

Ephesians 6:12 For we are not wrestling with flesh and blood [contending only with physical opponents], but against the despotisms, against the powers, against [the master spirits who are] the world rulers of this present darkness, against the spirit forces of wickedness in the heavenly (supernatural) sphere.

13 Therefore put on God’s complete armor, that you may be able to resist and STAND YOUR GROUND on the evil day [of danger], and, having done all [the crisis demands], to STAND  [firmly in your place].
14 STAND therefore [hold your ground], having tightened the belt of truth around your loins and having put on the breastplate of integrity and of moral rectitude and right standing with God
