Once Upon A Time There was A Potter

potter-and-clay[1]

Once upon a time there was a Potter….. The Potter loved making his pots!  He designed them in every shape, size and color so that no two was ever exactly alike!  Each one of course was his favorite!
Even when one would come out of the kiln with a bubble or a flaw… He would always declare it his favorite.  When one fell… chipping or breaking… it just made him smile and love it even more because even though the outside changed…its function and beauty was still very evident to him.

Then one day…. One of the Pink pots declared it didn’t like being pink and thought the Potter made a mistake and should have been painted blue….so it began to change its  colors.  Many others declared they thought they weren’t the right color too, so colors began to be mixed on top of colors.  Blues covered now in pink …. Pinks covered in blue…some mixed the colors and became purple while some only painted half of themselves…being half pink and half blue.  The inside of the pots… however… stayed the same, which made the decision on which shelf they belonged a new challenge and caused even  more confusion.

On another shelf some of the pots decided the white ones were looking at them differently because they were black.  They assumed they were talking bad about them and began to push and shove them off the shelf.

The green ones looked at the red ones and declared green was the superior color and all red ones should be shunned and walled them into a corner shelf.

Little pots were being mistreated by bigger pots.
Dainty pots were abused by overbearing pots.
Some pots deliberately left a chip on their top…. Just daring one of the others to knock it off….just so
they would have a reason to start a fight!

Some pots decided one color was too plain and simple so they began stamping different colors and symbols on themselves.  Although some were very ornate ….one stamp became two and two became 5… until others no longer could see the beautiful base under the massive ink on top.

Pots were created to be used in special service… some to hold and pour liquids… some flowers.  Many were created to be used for cooking, cleaning and many other chores while some were even made… just to bring peace and beauty into a room.  Dissatisfaction begin to arise in many though as they focused on the pot next to them ….comparing themselves on the features they did or didn’t have that made them unique.

When the Potter returned to his shop…. How sad He felt when He saw the chaos that had erupted!   His beautiful creation…. trying so hard to be unique…. different….. the same….to fit in….to stand out….. Lost sight of the true ……beautiful….. unique self…. they were made for….crafted…. lovingly by the Potter himself!

I don’t always like certain “parts” or “traits” I have…. But when I begin to focus on those… I have to say… God… I don’t understand why you made me this way…. But… I have to trust that you knew exactly what you were doing… because you crafted me and made me special.

A potter has that special ability to look beyond what looks like nothing to you and me…… and shapes the clay into a work of art!
Just like the way an artistic potter sees a beautiful creation out of a LUMP of clay You saw me before I was even formed…. and you saw…
A work of art!!!!
Psalm 139:15-16The Message (MSG)
13-16 Oh yes, you shaped me first inside, then out;
you formed me in my mother’s womb.
I thank you, High God—you’re breathtaking!
Body and soul, I am marvelously made!
I worship in adoration—what a creation!
You know me inside and out,
you know every bone in my body;
You know exactly how I was made, bit by bit,
how I was sculpted from nothing into something.
Like an open book, you watched me grow from conception to birth;
all the stages of my life were spread out before you,
The days of my life all prepared
before I’d even lived one day.
